WASHINGTON, DC — Today, the American College of Radiation Oncology (ACRO) announced its support for the bipartisan letter calling for the reversal of the CMS-directed cuts in the upcoming omnibus appropriations legislation.
ACRO applauds the 63 members of the House of Representatives who signed a letter to the leadership of the U.S. House and U.S. Senate calling for relief for office-based providers. Click here to view the letter.
Last week, ACRO joined 17 other organizations representing office-based specialists in backing the effort led by Representatives Bobby L. Rush (D-IL) and Gus Bilirakis (R-FL) to address the cuts before they impact cancer patients and force radiation therapy centers to close their doors. ACRO has raised concerns that the cuts initiated by CMS will weaken our health care system, widen the health equity gap for black and brown patients, and exacerbate the disturbing trend of health care consolidation.
Joanne Dragun, MD, FACRO, President of the American College of Radiation Oncology, said, “ACRO is excited to see bipartisan movement on Capitol Hill to provide relief to radiation therapy centers. Leaders in both chambers must take this issue seriously because specialty providers, like radiation therapy centers, serve an essential function in our country’s health care system by providing the highest quality care in a personalized setting.”
Dr. Dragun continued, “Radiation oncologists across the country are asking Congress to put patients first by rolling back these cuts in the upcoming omnibus appropriations package. We are grateful to our members who contacted their representative in Congress in support of this letter.”
