On July 7, 2022, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released the proposed rule for the 2023 Medicare physician payment schedule. In the rule, CMS proposes to reduce the 2023 Medicare conversion factor by about 4.5% from $34.6062 to $33.0775. This is largely a result of 1) the expiration of a 3% increase to the conversion factor at the end of calendar year 2022 as required by law and 2) additional funding for E/M services which results in a roughly 1.5% budget-neutrality cut to the conversion factor.
Comments to the 2023 PFS Proposed Rule are due in 60 days. ACRO will strongly advocate to CMS and the Congress that these continued cuts to radiation oncology are unsustainable.
